Flor Silvestre [English translation]
Flor Silvestre [English translation]
Wild and rural flower,
Simple and natural flower,
They don't bleieve you're a fine flower1
For living by the prickly pear.
You're not a rose, you're not an iris,
Much less a Fleur de Lis
But you adorn martyrdom
And make the thistle happy
Like you, my wild flower,
I found a love in the hills
It never knew about the luck
And knew much about the sorrow2
Humble country flower
who decorates the bramble patch
I dedicate my song to you
Angelic little flower
While you sleep in the ground
The bushes protect you
And the oyster thistle3 and goat-horn grape4
Form your muptial berry5
You have always been my hope
Beautiful spiritual flower
I have placed my confidence in you
Little flower of the bramble patch.
1. Not "la fina flor" which would be qite different2. translating on the assumption that "si" is a typo for "sí"3. Scolymus hispanoicus4. I'm guessing: cornisuelo could be an American spelling of "cornezuelo", which can mean cornicabra - goat-horn grape, and is a pretty thorny plant so it fits in nicely; another possibility is terebinth but I don't think that's thorny enough; and although hawthorn is also a possible meaning of cornicabra it is not a possible meaning of cornezuelo according to the RAE dictionary5. I haven't a clue what that means!
