New ‘Suits’ Series From Original Creator Aaron Korsh in Early Development at NBCUniversal
A new series set in the world of Suits is in very early development, Variety has confirmed with sources.
The new show would hail from Aaron Korsh, the creator of Suits. At this time, it would not be a spinoff, prequel, or sequel to the original show, but rather would feature entirely new characters in a new setting.
Nothing is finalized as of yet, but given the recent success of Suits on streaming, it is believed to be a high priority for NBCUniversal. No network is attached to the project at this time. Suits and its spinoff Pearson originally aired on USA Network, but given the fact that network has largely moved away from scripted fare of late, it is doubtful any potential new show would land there. UCP, which produced the original show, is in talks to produce the new show. David Bartis and Doug Liman, who were on executive producers on the original, will also executive produce the new show.
Variety has reached out to NBCUniversal for comment and will update this story should they respond.
Suits originally aired on USA Network from 2011-2019 for nine seasons. It starred Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Gina Torres (who led the short-lived Pearson spinoff), Sarah Rafferty, and more.
The show was successful in its initial run but has reentered the cultural conversation of late thanks to the first eight seasons becoming available on Netflix in addition to already being available on Peacock. It has dominated the streaming ratings charts since then, with the show recently breaking a record with the most-ever No. 1 appearances on Nielsens Streaming Top 10 chart.
A move to capitalize on the shows newfound success is hardly surprising, particularly as Hollywood is undergoing a major contraction as the so-called streaming bubble bursts. Multiple industry sources believe that studios and streamers are going to be on the lookout for more moderately priced fare like procedurals and sitcoms rather than the high-priced IP driven and prestige shows that have dominated for the past several years.
Deadline first reported the new Suits series being in early development.
