Marim ja... [English translation]
Marim ja... [English translation]
The best years of my life
Great and bad
They just slipped like the force of the Danube1
Under the shadow of Fortress2
Years of lions, wine and poppies3
They passed easily
Like an imperial lieutenant
Young and conceited, with his sweetheart
But I don't care4
These are just drops of time
Spilled like a handful of seeds
In the wide field of the Lord
Oh, I don't care,
Where the ancient restlessness are now
Playful white butterflies
Days of stars gifted to her, forever
Big dates, expected and
Marked by little red cross5
They passed quietly like a cloud of cotton
Above the church tower
The best years of my life
They passed insidiously
I paused a little bit
Bad company has dragged them away forever
But I don't care
These are just drops of time
Spilled like a handful of seeds
In the wide field of the Lord
Oh, I don't care,
Where the ancient restlessness are now
Playful white butterflies
Time of stars gifted to her, forever
It couldn't have been better
1. Danube - big river, passing through Serbia and Novi Sad (city where Balasevic lived)2. Fortress - refers to medieval Petrovaradin Fortress on the Danube in Novi Sad3. Poppies are probably mentioned in this song (like it was the case with some other Balasevic songs) since poppy is widely used in Vojvodina for different pastries4. "Marim ja" literally means "I care" but in this song we understand it actually as I don't care due to the order of the words and the rest of the verse5. In the calendars of Orthodox church important church holidays are noted with red cross next to the date number
