Há festa na Mouraria [English translation]
Há festa na Mouraria [English translation]
There is a party in the Mouraria
It is the day of the procession
Of the Lady of Health
Even the Rosa Maria
of the Road of the Chaplain
Appears to have some virtue.
In that neighborhood Fado singers
Silenced the guitars:
One does not sing on this day,
An old neighborhood tradition,
Bells ringing vibrate in the air,
There is a party in the Mouraria.
Rich quilts on the windows,
Loose petals on the floor.
Faithful souls, crude people
Goes with faith through the alleyways:
It is the day of the procession
Of the Lady of Health.
After a brief rumor
Profound silence weighs down:
Upon the Large of the Guide
The Virgin passes in the reliquary.
Everyone takes a knee and prays,
Even the Rosa Maria.
As if petrified
In fervent oration,
So is its attitude,
So the rose already defoliated
from the Road of the Chaplain
appears to have virtue.
