La Tuxpeña [English translation]
La Tuxpeña [English translation]
There was a little woman from Tuxpan
Casting fish hooks in the river
And seeing that I was looking at her
She tangled up the line
She washed at the bottom of the water
Her black sea eyes
And in her little scarlet mouth
Was reflected a sigh
Lady from Tuxpan, lovely one from Tuxpan
You have caught a fish
“They aren’t biting, they aren’t hungry”
Almost trembling she said to me.
“Cast the line again
And look here at me,” I say to her
“You will catch my captive
Heart with your glances”
Smiling the little native of the port
And sympathetic with me
She told me to help her
To untangle the line
Biting the hooks of love
Caught between their lips
We went like two fish
Following the course of the river
Lady from Tuxpan, lovely one from Tuxpan
Little port of my love
Your hook remained fastened
Deep in my heart
You were my fisherwoman
Today I go with you
Since I have now swallowed the bait
Today I am your prisoner
My little one from Tuxpan
