Freundliche Gesichter [English translation]
Freundliche Gesichter [English translation]
[It was 1967 or 68, or some time around,
when two young firebrands started out in Berlin to unhinge the world.
One was tall and thin, they called him long Hannes. The other one was rather slight, they called him little Reinhard, and both blazed and burned, there was a fire inside of them, it's still there, I can confirm it. And worse, it is, it is real now, and they didn't have many goods, both of them, each of them had a guitar, wait, yes, one of them had an ancient VW and the other one had a map. And so they started out to climb the Olympus of songwriting. And of course there is such a commemoration, a song.]
??, trucks breathing down our neck
when time and ways didn't matter
an old car, only held together by my believe, a trick, love and rust,
and so I spent days on roads
endlessly rich in hopes and dreams
the guitar on the back seat was my only freight
my only fear to miss something
There were friendly faces and it was good to see a smile
we were like friends, like accomplices
I had found my way, they gave me the courage to go it
and me and my songs accomodations
when nobody believed in me but them and me
The applause in the evenings made me strong, so I could go to new studios, new producers in the morning
It helped me to keep standing proud in the outer offices, even when all doors in front of me closed
It let me get over the disappointment, the putting offs, the ?? and the excuses every time
In the evening, I would find a tiny but crowded hall, open ears, and a home!
And there were friendly faces and it was good to see a smile
we were like friends, like accomplices
I had found my way, they gave me the courage to go it
and me and my songs accomodations
when nobody believed in me but them and me
Well, today, a gentle wind blows in my face more warmly
and many things have changed
but glittery stuff doesn't dull my sight
the head lights didn't blind me
It just feels good to no longer stand in the cold rain
I'm thankful for that, but still
I haven't unlearned to look through all the light
I haven't forgotten you for one moment
All the friendly faces, it was good to see a smile
we were like friends, like accomplices
I had found my way, they gave me the courage to go it
and me and my songs accomodations
when nobody believed in me but them and me
when nobody believed in me but them and me
