El diablo es un señor [English translation]
El diablo es un señor [English translation]
The devil is a formal gentleman,
who never forgets his jacket and hat
who lives in a house with built-in closets
to hide fear and the unknown.
The devil is as precise as hunger,
perfect and orderly as fraud
sometimes he has a belly and if he doesn't,
he is bald like all his pleasures.
The devil has a tail but he hides it
in a thick black portfolio
where he also has documents
that authorize him to kill people.
The devil puts the soul on podiums
and listens to the speeches of the dead.
He proudly crawls through history
and lies down with impoverished memories.
The devil wakes up very early,
tired of the comfort that chains him,
and runs through the streets hastily
to share his boredom and his pain.
I have seen him many times, like you,
in the mirror and in the pocket of whomever.
In the reassurance that assures everything
except peace, light, springtime.
I have seen him walk beside me
and measure morality and skirts,
decide the size of happiness,
justice, honor and ideas.
I have seen him many times, but now
my joy speaks clearly of his absence.
Perhaps his own hands killed him
by finally listening to his conscience.
Perhaps his own hands killed him
by finally listening to his conscience.
