County town is sleeping lightly,

Vapour clouds are hanging above,

Third one we drunk for the fallen1

In oversea distant outskirts,

What's the reason and purpose.

After fifth one we had a fight

Like Chapayev and Susanin,

Flashing lights arrived there

And they rocked everybody.

And now in a dump dungeon,

Where you don't know, what will happen,

Soul is warmed with cigarette,

A drop of eternal flame.

Morning - judge, and behind the bars

Languid firebird in heavens2

Squinting its emerald eye

At him and at me.

Tell me please who were we?

What we searched for, what loved we?

Were you honestly mine, dear girl?

Or it's all just a bad dream?

Nettle grows bathed in moonlight

On some unremembered tombstone,

And in distance fete is giggling

Announced by some belfry chime.

1. I got impression that the song says "павших", also it makes much more sense2. This refers firebird from Russian legends, but I'm not sure what it means in this context. Maybe this is a methaphore for Russian Federation coat of arms eagle hypothetically hanging on the wall at police station?
