鴉と白鳥 [Karasu to hakuchō] [English translation]
鴉と白鳥 [Karasu to hakuchō] [English translation]
When strikingly transparent frost descends; the crow's eyes are the colour of lapis lazuli
because of continuing to glare wrathfully at this frozen, friendless night.
Pelted by stones when descending to the city; disdained in the forest.
Growing tired of it all, I escaped to a shed where I cultivated my melancholy.
Wishing to be loved -- that was enough to be embarrassed about.
This long loneliness
The reason these feathers were dyed black
is that they soaked in a jealousy-darkened spring.
The reason my voice was terribly hoarse
is that I cursed this hateful life throughout the night.
The person I met on the banks of disappointment--
mulberry-red eyes, white feathers.
A gathering of sunlight on the road leading back to one's hometown
Because 'not being normal' means 'being different from others',
If two people who are different from others come together -- then that 'normalness' is ours alone
The reason those feathers flutter so white in the sky
is because they wear the velvet of a hometown's snowed-on scenery.
We must have had some similarity;
that's because, on this earth, we met amid the same pain.
"Staying here isn't right; there must be a more suitable place"
Saying that, you returned to your journey, white wings stark against the sky.
Mixing with the same colour is normal; when others mix, we're the ones excluded.
My surroundings may change, but I remain myself; equal to these feathers.
I praise the sort of person I am
The reason these wings flutter so dark, so wretchedly
is because they flutter in the pain of being myself.
The reason my voice is terribly jarring
is that I'm still continuing to curse this hateful life.
When strikingly transparent frost descends, the swan's eyes are red
from crying over the nostalgia of the journey, and those from whom it parted.
