Such a grand idea to have a pet

Or to raise animals too for foods

Yet often do not see down the road

The obligations and inconvenience

So what was once cute and fuzzy

Lends itself to intervention daily

And so becomes alienated at home

To be scorned because they can

In idle energy destructive path taken

Since none take time attentively

Then banished to the tethered yard

To bark at everything for attention

So then the neighbors must endure

The liabilities passed off by owners

Their apathy for animals ignored

In all weather, without basic needs

Is it not so much that they survive

An existence harsh and cruel

That if their owners were placed so

They would surely perish shortly

For exposure to the elements

Given naught but a thin fur coat

Could not keep away the cold

Nor stay the rains of autumn

The demand for calories for heat

Or water for hydration to live on

Is withheld, or its priority ignored

There is no justice keen to act

That if the punitive retribution

Were to submit the owner too

The same sullied lifestyle there

The elements would have them

The measure of care is humanity

The character to do what duty calls

For those voiceless for options

In need of advocates to be fair

An animal undisciplined, uncared

Turns wild and unpredictable

Untrusted it becomes a hazard

That must ultimately be destroyed
