Fiesta en Elorza [English translation]
Fiesta en Elorza [English translation]
One 19th of March
I was invited to a dance
In the city of Elorza
In their patronal1 celebrations
Their beautiful girls
Adorned the place with their beauties
And under the plains sky
They ambled along the streets
With joyful smiles
And savannah scents
And at daybreak
In the celebratory environment
Singing to their girls
I was there in Elorza
And while drinking moonshine here and there
I spent happy days
II
And a monday morning (x2)
Starting the week
My eyes bid farewell (x2)
To that nice locale
Remembering with affection
The girls, town and savannah
A plainsman dies singing
Even if his sorrow is mourning
I was bourn in Apure
I'm a singer from my plainland
And tomorrow, when I die,
Don't mourn me, my country folks,
Bury me in Elorza
In the riverbank next to a matapalo2
So that the river's foam
May bring me distant memories
1. Of their patron saints.2. Matapalo is the name used for many kinds of plants in Venezuela. You can see a list in that link. They can look like this
