I lie, my body wounded,

my body cooling.

Death drags me near.

Snow falls over me.

My men lie near me,

the troop all dead

Heroes have they been,

revenge gave us peace.

I draw my last breath,

Óðinn's lad misses a meal.

Darkness pulls at his arms,

The sun from the east casts light

At last the rage falls back in waves,

dented sword and broken shield.

A smile appears on Baldur's lips,

the song of brothers never corrodes.

they shall hail the gods.

The wolf in the crooked slain

becomes of late some blessings.

I smile now to my children,

soon will all sorrows cease

I see my dearest wife

coming to sleep by my side.

Now there is no one living

The life in Baldur's eye fades

awaiting death, only waiting

The wind groans in the trees,

all sleeping the big sleep.

Wind from the north moves the grass
