Carta de un león a otro [English translation]
Carta de un león a otro [English translation]
Pardon me my brother if I tell you
that I haven't felt like writing to you.
I don't know if it's my captivity,
I don't know if it's the food
or the time that I've spent in this life.
The truth is that the zoo is depressing
and evil isn't redeemed without love.
If not for those children
that bring their joy,
I would be more bitter still.
It will go better for you, I hope,
traveling around the whole world;
although the tamer, as you tell me,
obligates you to work more than necessary.
You have to understand, brother,
that the soul is villainous---
not being able to kill whomever it wants,
it unleashes its power over the beasts.
Many humans are important
by means of a chair, a whip in hand.
But getting back to me, nothing has changed
here since we were separated.
There's something, however,
that I noticed among the people---
it seems that they look different.
Their eyes have lost some sparkle,
as if they were the captives.
I know what I'm talking about,
you can bet
that on the outside they have
thousands of problems.
We were caught in the jungle, brother,
and look into what compassionate hands;
their air is polluted with smoke and death
and those who can anticipate their fate.
To return to nature
would be their greatest wealth,
there they can love each other freely
and there are no zoos for people.
Take care, brother, I don't know when,
but that day is coming.
