Season's Apathy - Christmas lyrics
Season's Apathy - Christmas lyrics
As the choir mumbled "What Child Is This"
In a most sullen, somber way
The celebrant's procession probed forth upon the floor
Stone faces with stone gazes looked upon the altar
Without intention
Never to gaze about
Naught to voice a chorus
Nor to acknowledge their pious presence
Numbed by the winter's cold
More apathetic each passing year
T'would be but fear, or the unsecure
That silenced this past celebration
The free men have no wish to express it
For freedom came with birth
The lingual praise of hymn
It never touches the celestial vaults
No need someone else will do it
With a far greater song than I
Mumbling, straying, unattentive
Unappreciative, rambling masses
The unfeeling choir with no cheer
The monotonous presentation of clergy
The response of enlessened figures
The stumbling of communion lines
Say not a word...
It is sad that the heart chants no refrain
Nor abundant happiness for this divine time
For freedom, for wealth of good health, money
The ability to smile, the ability to believe
With some sort of immortal hope rendered
Through the unity of church and God
When one is deprived or forgets these gifts
Their significance is increased twofold
Their presence, or existance is well noted
How much money gave you, the church?
No hesitation in that reply,
The beast pounces out
Ask another about themselves
The reply is questioned
For the fear of conflict of interests
Those who are in service of country
They miss whole-heartedly
The Christmas of home
Each remembers the magic of the season
Perhaps it is better
Not to be amongst those people
Unknowing of the season's spirit
Though far away one thing always remains
Dear, the men and women abroad
Keep the liberty light bright
And the magic of Christmas night
Merry Christmas, Happy Christmas!
