This unicorn of the sea

They possess each a spiral tusk

Visible when they surface

They spar as if dueling sabres

Majestic arctic denizens

They can dive down great depths

To find food in a polar world

A world sparse and unrelenting

Named for their textured hide

Like that of a rotting corpse

Living near these icy flows

They graze on the squid and fish

She was tormented by her spouse

Her hair made loose by his pursuit

She fell into the polar sea, alas

Her hair spread out in disarray

A maelstrom began to twist it so

Its braiding formed an ivory tusk

She descended 'neath the waves

And the woman, she is the narwhal
