Il muro [English translation]
Il muro [English translation]
And then who said that it's contradictory
to have and idea, and then to change it?
At the end life is a transformation;
you see, even the caterpillar turns into a butterfly.
Sometimes it happens with the point of view,
it's sufficient a little to reverse it.
So from master you go back to apprentice,
you restart from the beginning and understand that
the wall – the one we have inside
is the same to the one we see outside.
I believe in its overcoming
if it is true that we are the bricks.
And then, what is needed is deconstruction,
a kind of travel that brings us within ourselves
to know better our fears
which seem to be made of marble and whisper...
The gum wall, the wailing wall;
a kid in front of it that plays as goalkeeper.
The wall that before is made of iron and concrete,
the wall that afterwards becomes rubble.
The wall which grows and little by little cages you
a bit because of the war, a bit because of the peace.
The wall which has seen fire and has seen rain,
to the wall only the voice is missing.
The wall – the one in front of the school,
mornings passed building castles in the air
and I who felt lonely
and hated to reread history.
And it's true that we are all students
and that we need tutoring
even though today the rule is to rush
and one doesn't like to curtsy.
And now I start by putting my hands ahead
one needs no holds, just a lot of courage
The wall hurts, but I want no gloves;
I'd feel worse if I remained at the base.
I want to climb it at any price,
to leave behind me fears and uncertainty
and kill now and forever that worm
which gnaws character and gives weakness.
And now from here, standing on the wall
I feel different, I feel truer.
If I look far away, I see clearer
like saying «I feel complete!» on the wall.
The wall...
