Don't ask me for an account of my life
It would take too long to tell, your majesty
I've lived in all ages, so it feels as though
I am a million years old
My suitcases are exhausted from travel
And I'm tired of my steeds and my conquests
All of the dark and light-skinned cheeks in the world
have had my banners planted upon their land
And today I sit atop the deck of my ship
Like a thief looking for his rescue
Where are the captives? Where is my loot?
Where's the incense? It's vanishing from my chambers
Today the cheeks take their revenge
And return my stabs right back at me
I am like a street lamp, my friend
I cry but nobody sees my tears
Don't ask me for an account of my life
It would take too long to tell, your majesty
I am incapable of loving any ant,
any cloud or even any pebble
I tried a thousand different types of love
And found that the best type is loving myself
Love is all the same now
Just like leaves in forests are the same
All our paths are dead ends
And our salvation lies within painting with words
Don't ask me for an account of my life
It would take too long to tell, your majesty
