Biodiversity lyrics

On this lonely planet of ours, distant

Amid this vast silent solar system

The sounds of life are only here

Each entwined with one another

This complex realm of biodiversity

What is there amid these trees

Across the grasslands if left to die

Can never be returned to itself

The plants, the animals depend

What is lost will take others too

Our climate changes by dependency

A carbon footprint broad and deep

That circumvents our beloved sphere

Higher free carbon from combustion

It makes the temps gain and rise

Glaciers once carpeting arctician

Have withdrawn from their limits

The ocean rises and warms too

Impeding the land, confining men

A small sampling of catastrophe

Men are limited, often complacent

For lives are short, and funding too

What is obvious in but an instant

Slips by less noticed in ages gone by

An atmosphere lost is the rapture

What is present can be maintained

Better yet improved and kept

But man must look ahead and plan

Seasons give life time to sleep

So spring can be reborn bountiful

Even in urbanization amid concrete

Amongst the asphalt edges long

There lies an opportunity to give

Give back what we have taken from

Grass is good, but trees are fine

Should the poles finally melt away

The globe will change and take

Take away the chain of life dear

The fires uncontrolled are for biers

Signaling a funerary conclusion

The ground burns and life atop

The skies fill with acrid smoke

Choking the planet's breath out

Hazes unclear-cut zones so vast

That require ages to return again

Wetlands drained remove the green

The dust settles in to smother still

Man's encroachment unplanned

Will render collateral damage not seen

Where does it end with so many here

To be short sighted, to be blind

For the gains of men mortally bound

An age is but a flash in world history

Long after the money us gone, and they

The legacy of life will bear the result

Algae blooms viewed from space

The water that is captured blue

The green of forests and biology

The white of snows at the poles

Can all vanish, vanish forevermore
