Auf dich hab ich gewartet [English translation]
Auf dich hab ich gewartet [English translation]
Of that One have I often had dreams –
even cried for no cause.
And so many have I blindly followed
without a “why” or “because.”
And a spring evening lying in the dust
was softer than a feather bed.
And some games were not allowed us,
yet we wanted to play them instead.
So much emotion I have here in my head –
I found it and I kept it, yet I ... still looked on ahead.
But it’s for you, I have been waiting.
Have oft desired
and loved, admired . . .
with names in a heart inspired.
But it’s for you, I have been waiting.
From the first day I was quite enticed.
I read him through like a book.
Several had I scared away
which made me desp’rately look.
By the many attractions, blinded,
like a child at the fairground plays.
Yet again in all the racket caught up
and lost its way.
So much emotion I have here in my head –
I found it and I kept it, yet I … still looked on ahead.
But it’s for you, I have been waiting.
Have oft desired
and loved, admired . . .
with names in a heart inspired.
But it’s for you, I have been waiting.
