Drive-By Truckers cover Greg Lake
As one-third of the prog-rock supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer, it’s strange that one of Greg Lake’s biggest hits came by way of a solo Christmas song. Released in 1975, “I Believe In Father Christmas” saw Lake taking on the rampant commercialization of the holiday season, as he wished for quiet moments with loved ones instead of the hustle and bustle of the outside world. It’s a song that appealed to Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers for that very reason, and in the Truckers’ version they offer an equally moving take on a song that’s proven all too true.
