Rosinha dos Limões [English translation]
Rosinha dos Limões [English translation]
When she walks by,
All slender and full of gracefulness,
There's always a mischievous air
In her bewitching eyes.
There she goes, so lovely,
Looking prettier every day
And her chita dress
Always looks like her Sunday best.
She walks by so lightly,
Cheerful and seductive
And, smiling at everyone in the street,
She keeps sowing hopes and dreams.
When she walks by,
She goes to the market square to sell lemons
And people even call her, in jest,
Rosie of the Lemons!
When she walks by
Close to my window,
My eyes follow her
'Till they see the end of the street.
With a cheerful air,
She walks in a rush
While laughing at everything and nothing
And, sometimes, she smiles at me.
When she walks by
Peddling her lemons,
All alone with my buttons
I wait by my window pane,
While thinking
That, one of these days, by grace
I'll go to the market square to buy lemons
And then, I will marry her!
