Ο σουλτάνος της Βαβυλώνας και η γυναίκα [O soultanos tis Vavylonas kai i gynaika] [English translation]
A friend is starting on an overseas journey to the land of Babylon, with a frock instead of a javelin
To preach about humanity and kindness
But the Saracen warriors bound him with bronze shackles
For his own God,
The injustice of the world,
They take him as a prisoner in front of some Sultan
(The Sultan) frees him of his shackles
And so our friend moves along to preach elsewhere
He stops by some well to quench his thirst
But some woman doesn't take very long to approach
She's very beautiful but her heart is poison
She lures him with her body into another torture
For your God,
I will burn with you
He reached out his hands to her
And doves appeared
With his touch he convinces her
And so our friend moves along to preach elsewhere
Friar Francesco was once leaving for overseas
all the way to the lands of Babylonia to pray,
he and his companions on via dei Saracini
got caught and beaten, poor fellows!
Friar Francesco talked
and preached so well
that the Great Sultan listened
and admired him so much,
releasing him from the chains...
and so Francesco left for Babylonia to pray
I'm going to say a couple of words about the poor man from Assisi. Who went over to the fortress of Babylon
To preach about humanity and kindness
But the Saracen warriors bound him with bronze shackles
