Lilablau [English translation]
Lilablau [English translation]
Hook:
lights shine into my face
kaleidoscope colors turn into your face
you're not here, into my haze
kaleidoscope colors turn into your face
Part 1:
And suddenly everything violet,1 the rapture of the deep
again, staring the fever dream in the face-- dead on
strobe-light flashes outline everything for miles-- close
thick fog palpable, no fear, alone through squadrons of spotlight beams2
on every side, seemingly lost together in the finding
blinded at once, I drift in the sea of faces
drown in that place
and suddenly everything violet
Hook:
Lights shine into my face
kaleidoscope colors turn into your face.
You're not here, into my haze
kaleidoscope colors turn into your face.
Part 2:
Strobing from violet to monochrome
see-sawing3 from odd to elecrified
pictures flicker for only seconds, so that every boundary
blurs, infinite depth
together4 alone in bittersweet epilepsies
Away from the beat, just tear loose from the whirl5
bathed in sweat, along endless corridors
the crush of the crowd
hectic press6, squeeze by with hands on the wall
and suddenly everything violet
Hook:
Lights shine into my face
kaleidoscope colors turn into your face.
You're not here, into my haze
kaleidoscope colors turn into your face.
1. Colors are hard to translate. I searched google images until I found an English keyword that looked like pretty much the same colors as came up for 'lilablau.'2. I think the German phrase is a little more figurative and vague than this, but I'm not sure how to translate it into anything that doesn't sound silly-- who actually ever says 'the army of cones of light?'3. Literally, having one's poles figuratively reversed4. Literally 'as two.'5. Literally the action, but it has so many connotations... 'whirl' is definitely a free translation though.6. I hear 'Enge' to rhyme with 'Gänge' and '-gedränge,' not 'Engel.'
