Le petit clair de lune [English translation]
Le petit clair de lune [English translation]
If a girl with the eyes of an angel
on a whim asks you
how the stars over the sea were born,
tell her to imagine
this pleasant story.
A little moonbeam,
head-over-heels in love with a star,
on three planks of fortune,
every night wove sails
and on this ship
sailed off to see his beloved.
The little moonbeam
offered to her beautiful mirages
and his joys insistently
in order to invite her to be his companion—
but, despite all of his zealousness,
the beloved replied to him:
"Tin-tin-tin, sweet moonbeam,
tin-tin-tin, even if you were a full moon,
I would never love you!"
The little moonbeam,
carried off by a cloud—
while crying over his misfortune—
shipwrecked in the ocean
and, gazing at the cruel beloved,
he drowned himself for her.
"Damn, damn, damn," mused the star.
"Damn, damn, damn, I do not have a lover
who deserves that—that was so radical!"
The little moonbeam—
seeing her flickering over the waves—
he offered her with no hard feelings
all of his heart in exchange for a ring—
and so she, to please him,
threw herself into the sea.
And so she, to please him,
threw herself into the sea.
And so she, to please him,
threw herself into the sea.
