קפה אצל ברטה [Kaffe Etzel Bertta] [English translation]

When I am despondent and my heart is heavy

i go to Berta's and sit with her

i drink a black coffee

show her my hand

she says to me that i am nice

put a "ten-spot" on the side

And then suddenly she is quiet and sees

all that will happen and all that has happened

sees who i am thinking of

and what i want

says that a new cycle

will start when the year ends

Always when i am getting ready to leave

she tries to tell me that it'll be even better

after a few small sorrows

suddenly you will feel wonderful

you'll have a great happiness

the word of Berta is a promise

i go to see Berta once a year

and in the meantime nothing has changed

but i always return

show her my hand

and hope that one day

i will say a final goodbye and will not fear

And so i ask her about love

she says "yes" but disappointment before...

maybe see a doctor

listen you are a handsome man

perhaps drink another cup of coffee with me....
