Розы [English translation]
Розы [English translation]
Clear snow glistened,
Shone in silver,
And light played with crystal snow-dust
In frosty tinselry.
On a harsh january day,
Automobiles slipped along the highway.
Waiting for the shuttle-bus
I was freezing to the point of weeping,
And often looked at my watch.
But here a certain oddball
Handed me a bunch of roses
And smiling disappeared around the corner.
Those standing near
Shouted: "Bravo!
Look how the occasion has turned out for you",
And only an angry lady said:
"Your friend must have gone crazy from the coldness."
I didn't say a word
To that envious woman then,
I admire precious flowers.
I went dashing after the fellow.
I went here and there,
But the funny guy disappeared for good.
When I returned home, I took out eight roses.
Arranged the flowers and smiled.
I still don't know whom to say thank you to,
But very, very much want to say it.
The winter flew by, soon summer will end,
After autumn again snowfalls will show up.
But eight of my precious bouquets
Are still standing, not wilting, not wilting, not wilting!
